Mobility or Flexibility ?

Hi all

I always struggled with high mawashi and yoko geri's, I spent years try to stretch trying new methods and programs. More I stretched lower I could kick, later on I found that my hips are not design to kick high. No matter how much I would stretch it won't happen. As I become personal trainer with the postural focus I discovered mobility approach, which helped me to kick higher without pain (like 10cm). What is your focus?  Flexibility or mobility or you do both?

One aspect of this whole flexibility issue is that everyone can do the splits under anaesthesia of the CNS. It's also a mental (or rather neural?) thing.

Interesting, I used to assist by the operation table for knee replacement and never noticed that :)

Definitely it is all connected, if you are more relaxed more stretch you can do, In my case I cannot lift my leg sideways without shifting my hips, as in this test. http://www.stadion.com/misconceptions-on-stretching-and-flexibility-and-...  me femur is stopped by the hip casing pain, I tried relaxing and pushing through result is that I have nerve impingement for weeks and cannot walk properly.

Mobility helped a bit, but still the same problem I don’t feel muscle stretching just jamming bones together, grinding and nerve irritation.  

Maybe if I get knocked out someone can test if its my muscles or bones :)

I think that both mobility and flexibility are extremely important. Training in the complex is the right way. I've practice Krav Maga for self-defence http://thewowstyle.com/modern-martial-arts-for-self-defence/ and had some troubles with kicks too. But the complex training and good rest afterward helped a lot
