This DVD presents 20 two-person
combat drills which are designed to cover all ranges of fighting
in a fluid and pragmatic way. These drills cover a variety of strikes,
throws, chokes, takedowns, arm-locks, neck-cranks, strangles, leg-locks,
holds and ground-fighting techniques.
The combat drills on this
program are suitable for all martial artists who understand the
importance of possessing skills at all ranges and the need to be
able to flow from one technique to the next whilst maintaining dominance
over an opponent.
They will also help you
to combine techniques effectively, to exploit the opportunities
that the techniques create, and allow you to practise pragmatic
techniques and concepts in a time-efficient way.
The 20 drills shown on
this program include numerous applications from many different katas
(forms). For those martial artists who practice forms, these drills
will aid in the progression from Form to combative Function and
may be used as an alternative to classical one-step practise.
Running time: Approx. 1 Hour 10 Mins.
"I just wanted to
tell you I got 3 of your DVDs in the mail today!! Bunkai Jutsu 1
and 2 and the Combat Drills. I spend the day watching them!! The
DVDs are not only great; they are the best instruction videos I
have ever watched. I own many karate training DVDS, but yours
really out shined all the others. I just wanted to thank you for
the great DVDs!!!" - Troy Lovell, Clarkesville, USA
"This DVD is outstanding
work. I'm really impressed! The drills are easy to understand and
utilize. It's an excellent combination of explanation, technique,
application, and linkage to kata. There is a bit of comparison and
contrast with one-step kumite too, a big a benefit for traditionalists.
Iain does a very good job of explaining how each of the 20 drills
work as well as how one might (or might not) utilize each application
in a self-defense situation. The principle of continuous advantage
is both explained and shown throughout. He demonstrates where the
techniques take the opponent's weapon(s) out of play.
Iain moves very well too, making even the hard stuff look effortless,
so that there is realistic flow that students can strive to emulate.
I was also impressed by the way he explained the targeting, such
as leaning your weight on the other guy's leg for affect so that
you can see precisely where to land a kick. The bonus interview
and technique were nice add-ons as well.
I'm not generally a big fan of DVDs. They work well for a lot of
folks but the way I learn makes me favor a combination of books
and hands-on practice. Having said that, however, Iain's work has
made me rethink the value of DVDs. This one is a great tool even
for me. I look forward to viewing more of them as soon as I get
a little free time... Highly recommended!" - Lawrence Kane,

“Iain Abernethy
brings Karate back into the Real Arena with his pioneering concepts
of Kata Bunkai” – Geoff Thompson, world-renowned
martial artist, self-protection expert and best-selling author.
REVIEW:
"Once again, Abernethy breaks down the
barriers between the traditional and the modern and presents a flowing
series of techniques across all ranges. Iain Abernethy is building
an impressive body of work that pays testament to the ongoing validity
of the traditional arts within a modern framework."

(Combat Drills review)
REVIEW:
"Martial artists that may previously have thought that
a 'static' traditional art can offer them nothing new, especially
in the 'pavement arena' could do far worse than to give Abernethy
a go, as his flowing range of techniques, enthusiasm and no nonsense
approach may change (and open) your mind."
